Denmark’s 2-0 victory over Wales in Copenhagen has left the Welsh side struggling at the bottom of their Nations League Group A4. Without a point or a goal after two matches, Wales faces an uphill battle in their campaign.
During the first half, Wales found it difficult to contain Denmark, who created multiple scoring opportunities and even struck the post. Although Wales showed some improvement towards the end of the half, they were unable to find the back of the net.
The breakthrough for Denmark came in the 53rd minute when a free-kick by Mikkel Damsgaard inadvertently resulted in an own goal by Wales defender Ben Davies. Denmark extended their lead in the 66th minute when Gustav Isaksen’s shot deflected into the goal after Wales failed to clear the ball from danger.
Denmark continued to pressure Wales and had chances to increase their lead further. Meanwhile, Wales had a late goal disallowed, as Ethan Ampadu was penalized for a foul on an opponent.
This defeat follows Wales’ 1-0 loss to Portugal in their opening match. Wales manager Craig Bellamy acknowledged Denmark’s superiority on the day and admitted the result was difficult for his team. However, he emphasized the team’s commitment to improving their performance.
Wales’ next challenge is against Norway, after which they will face Denmark again in Cardiff. With a challenging start to their Nations League campaign, Wales will be looking to turn their fortunes around in the upcoming matches.
