However, the Turkish Cypriot authorities have expressed skepticism regarding the EU’s ability to act as a neutral entity in the peace process. The European Commission has clarified that the role of its special representative will be to foster trust between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. This representative is expected to support the resumption of negotiations within the UN framework.
