At the closing ceremony of Teknofest Blue Homeland, senior officials from Türkiye underscored the nation’s dedication to enhancing maritime security and defense capabilities while advancing technological independence. Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz emphasized the strategic importance of protecting Türkiye’s maritime interests, known as the “Blue Homeland,” in the face of escalating geopolitical rivalries, security threats, and the race for critical technologies, energy resources, and trade routes.
The event, held at Gölcük Naval Shipyard, displayed an impressive array of military assets, featuring 37 vessels and four aircraft. Among the showcased equipment were the TCG Anadolu, TCG Istanbul frigate, TCG Derya, and the Murat Reis submarine, in addition to domestically developed unmanned maritime systems. These demonstrations highlighted Türkiye’s focus on integrating both manned and unmanned platforms using artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, advanced sensors, and secure communications.
Yılmaz pointed out a significant achievement in Türkiye’s defense sector: the localization rate of the defense industry has surpassed 80%. This progress underlines the country’s ambition to solidify its standing among the world’s foremost defense exporters. Türkiye’s commitment to technological advancement in defense is evident in its proactive approach to incorporating cutting-edge innovations into its military strategy.
Teknofest Blue Homeland also served as a platform for competitions centered around unmanned underwater systems, maritime vehicles, and underwater technologies. These contests were designed to inspire and engage young engineers and innovators, reflecting Türkiye’s efforts to foster a new generation of talent in the defense and technology sectors.
