In an effort to fortify alliances amid global uncertainties, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called for renewed vigor in Türkiye-U.S. relations, emphasizing the importance of enhanced cooperation. Speaking at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, Erdoğan underscored the necessity of closer dialogue between the two NATO members to address international challenges effectively.
Erdoğan highlighted the benefits of past collaborations between Türkiye and the United States, particularly in the Middle East. He stressed the potential for expanding joint efforts in sectors such as nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry. By removing existing barriers, Erdoğan believes the two nations could significantly boost opportunities for joint defense production.
As part of his vision for deeper economic ties, Erdoğan invited U.S. investors to explore opportunities in Türkiye, introducing what he described as a competitive incentive framework aimed at attracting foreign investment. This initiative is a component of Ankara’s broader strategy to launch a new investment drive, which he hopes will entice more American businesses to enter the Turkish market.
Erdoğan also proudly noted the growth of Türkiye’s defense industry, with annual exports soaring from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion today. He expressed confidence that Türkiye is on the path to becoming one of the world’s top 10 defense exporters, marking significant progress in the sector.
The gala, attended by senior officials and business leaders from both countries, served as a platform for U.S. Senator Chris Coons to highlight the enduring partnership between Türkiye and the United States. Coons emphasized the crucial role of business ties and entrepreneurial ventures in strengthening bilateral relations, reiterating the mutual benefits of a robust economic partnership.
