In a congratulatory message, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan commended Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for her government’s historic achievement of becoming the longest-serving administration in the history of the Italian Republic. This milestone was reached as Meloni’s government marked 1,413 consecutive days in office, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 days set by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s second government from 2001 to 2005.

Erdoğan expressed his confidence in the continued deepening of cooperation and solidarity between Türkiye and Italy under Meloni’s leadership. Since taking office in October 2022 as Italy’s first female prime minister, Meloni has cultivated a close relationship with Erdoğan, with the two leaders frequently engaging in discussions on both bilateral and regional issues.

The collaboration between Türkiye and Italy has expanded across various sectors, including trade, investment, defence, energy, and migration. The countries have also coordinated efforts on regional matters such as the situations in Libya and Ukraine. In April 2025, Erdoğan and Meloni co-chaired the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit in Rome, where multiple agreements were signed to enhance their strategic and economic partnership.

The leaders’ most recent encounter took place during the NATO summit in Ankara in July, where they reaffirmed their commitment to increasing trade, mutual investment, and cooperation in defence and other strategic sectors. The ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the two nations underscore the strengthening ties and shared objectives that mark their bilateral relationship.
