In a significant diplomatic gathering in Istanbul, Türkiye and seven other nations have collectively cautioned against launching any new military attacks on Iran, warning that such actions could exacerbate regional conflicts and further destabilize the Middle East. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized that diplomacy and dialogue are the most effective means of resolving the ongoing crisis.
The meeting included representatives from Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy, all of whom expressed concerns about the growing instability in the region. They discussed the potential ramifications of current conflicts and stressed the importance of preventing further military escalation against Iran, which they believe could spread conflict across the region rather than resolve existing tensions.
The discussions also addressed several key issues contributing to regional instability, including Israel’s role in escalating tensions and the security challenges in the Black Sea and critical shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Disruptions in these areas could have significant impacts on international trade and global energy markets, the leaders noted.
Fidan highlighted the increasing economic and financial pressures facing countries worldwide due to conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine. He called for stronger international cooperation and effective diplomatic strategies to prevent further destruction and support peaceful resolutions.
Additionally, Fidan mentioned that Türkiye is engaged in discussions with Egypt to address Cairo’s concerns regarding Ankara’s maritime agreement with Libya. He expressed optimism about fostering conditions that could bring Libya’s conflicting eastern and western factions closer together.
