Intense rainfall in Istanbul is heightening the risk of flooding, waterlogging, and disruptions to transportation, according to local authorities. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster Coordination Center has indicated that the rain, which began affecting parts of the city earlier in the morning, is expected to intensify again around 11 a.m. and continue through the afternoon, gradually easing by 4 p.m.
Temperatures in the city have dropped significantly with the influx of cooler air, stabilizing at around 14°C in the morning and remaining below the usual seasonal averages throughout the day. This combination of cold air aloft and warm, moisture-laden air near the surface is anticipated to bring thunderstorms, lightning, and strong showers.
Meteorological authorities have issued warnings for Istanbul and several provinces in the Marmara and western Black Sea regions. These warnings highlight the potential for sudden flooding, strong winds, lightning, and transport disruptions, urging residents to remain vigilant.
Weather conditions are expected to improve from Thursday onwards, with forecasts predicting a rise in temperatures to about 21°C and no significant rainfall anticipated.
