Türkiye and China are marking a significant milestone with 55 years of diplomatic relations, as the two countries continue to enhance their cooperation in various fields including trade, technology, and regional affairs. The longstanding relationship, rooted in centuries of interaction along the historic Silk Road, has seen notable progress in recent decades, according to Türkiye’s Ambassador to China, Selçuk Ünal.
Formal diplomatic ties were established in 1971, and since then, the relationship has flourished. China has emerged as Türkiye’s largest trading partner, with annual trade between the two nations exceeding $50 billion. This robust economic partnership is complemented by strengthened connectivity, as passenger and cargo flights increasingly link key cities in both countries. Türkiye has also broadened its diplomatic reach within China by opening multiple consulates, facilitating deeper economic and cultural engagements.
Ambassador Ünal highlighted the areas of artificial intelligence, green energy, infrastructure, and commerce as key sectors where both nations are actively pursuing enhanced cooperation. This collaborative effort is underpinned by a shared perspective on numerous international and regional matters, particularly in promoting peace, stability, and development while working to prevent conflicts.
