Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has vowed to ensure investor protection and uphold economic stability amid an ongoing investigation into irregularities within the country’s capital markets. This commitment comes as Turkish authorities intensify efforts to address potential misconduct in the financial sector.

To manage the situation, Erdoğan announced the establishment of a fully authorized board led by the vice president to oversee the liquidation of affected funds. Additionally, he has directed the State Supervisory Council to participate in the ongoing process, demonstrating the government’s proactive approach to maintaining market integrity.

The Capital Markets Board of Türkiye has taken decisive action by ordering several investment funds managed by seven portfolio management companies to halt trading. In a bid to safeguard investors, the board has begun liquidating some funds. Concurrently, judicial measures have been implemented, with five individuals arrested as part of the probe into allegations of fraud, money laundering, and breaches of capital market laws.

Emphasizing accountability, Erdoğan assured that those found guilty of wrongdoing would face consequences. He stressed that the issues identified are confined to a specific segment of the market, and robust measures are in place to prevent any adverse impact on the country’s broader financial system.

The investigation highlights the Turkish government’s commitment to reinforcing investor confidence and financial stability, despite the challenges posed by the current inquiry. Erdoğan’s assurances aim to reassure both domestic and international investors of Türkiye’s dedication to transparent and secure market practices.
